The undisputed most valuable Blue Jay of the last decade and fan favourite Jose Bautista is heading to Level of Excellence at the Rogers Centre.
On Sunday morning, the Toronto Blue Jays announced the three-time Silver Slugger Award winner and six-time All-Star outfielder will have his name unveiled in the Level of Excellence on Aug. 12.
Bautista will become the seventh position player to join the Level of Excellence, joining legends George Bell, Joe Carter, Carlos Delgado, Tony Fernandez, Roy Halladay, and Dave Stieb.
Bautista, 42, officially announced his retirement from professional baseball last fall on “The Gibby Show” podcast. He hasn’t played in the majors since 2018.
He spent ten seasons in Toronto, hitting .253/.372/.506 with 288 home runs and 766 RBIs in 1,235 games while receiving top-10 votes for American League MVP on four occasions, but he will be remembered by most for his iconic bat flip in Game 5 of the 2015 ALDS against the Texas Rangers.
Bautista also holds the Blue Jays single-season record for most home runs, with 54, and is the all-time franchise leader in WAR among position players (38.3).
