After not getting the start to the season he wanted last week on Opening Day. Toronto Blue Jays ace, Alek Manoah, bounced back in his second outing of the season against the Kansas City Royals, earning his first win and helping the Blue Jays 3-0 victory in Kansas City.
Manoah went seven innings over 98 pitches, with five strikeouts, zero earned runs, and only surrendering one hit. He had a solid start to the game and carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the fifth until he eventually gave up a hit to former teammate, now Royal, Jackie Bradley Jr.
For the second game in a row, Matt Chapman, Daulton Varsho, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. carried the Blue Jays offensively, combining for seven of the team’s ten hits and all three Blue Jays runs. Chapman currently leads all MLB players with a .522 batting average (12 hits on 23 at-bats).
Guerrero Jr. put on some insurance in the top of the eighth, hitting a solo shot off Royals reliever Taylor Clarke for his first home run of the 2023 campaign. Jordan Romano came into the came to close out the ninth, earning his third save of the season.
The Blue Jays will be back in action on Thursday in the final game of the four-game series against the Royals. Kevin Gausman will take the mound against Royals right-hander Jordan Lyles.
