After spending 10 games on the road to start the 2023 campaign, the Blue Jays returned to the new and improved Rogers Centre in incredible fashion, staging a 9-3 comeback win led by offseason acquisition Kevin Kiermaier against the Detroit Tigers.

Following his five RBI performance against the L.A. Angels on Sunday, Kiermaier was on fire offensively and defensively again on Tuesday night, robbing Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter of a home run in the top of the second inning. In his second at-bat of the night, Kiermaier launched a solo shot over the left field wall to tie the game up at three–his first home run of the season.

Once Kiermaier reached the dugout, George Springer launched another home run on the next pitch to centre field, giving the Blue Jays their first lead of the ball game, 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth.

The offence did not stop there; Bo Bichette and Alejandro Kirk added two more homers in the eighth innings to give the Blue Jays a six-run lead, heading into the ninth.

Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano began warming up, but Anthony Bass closed things out to secure the team’s sixth win in their last seven games.

Alek Manoah went four and a third with three earned runs, five walks and three strikeouts. His next outing will be against the ‘currently’ undefeated Tampa Bay Rays on April 16. Zach Pop of Mississauga, Ont. earned his first win of the season, pitching an inning and two-thirds in relief for Manoah.

Kevin Gausman will take to the mound on Wednesday night against the 0-2 Eduardo Rodriguez in the second game of three against the Tigers.
